Moroccans produce nearly 50 million bottles of wine a year in a tradition that goes all the way back to the Romans and the 2nd Century. While entertaining your love for each other, try some of the regional reds such as Knar, Guerrouane, Siraoua, and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as delectable whites, including Gris de Boulaoune.  Hotel Sofitel Palas Jamais in Fes is a great romantic getaway nestled among several wineries in the area. Don’t miss The Medina or the Atlas Mountains while you’re visiting.

Israel

The art of winemaking goes back to Biblical times in this region, and generations upon generations have perfected the craft, so you and your honey will be smitten with fabulous flavor. Jerusalem, Galilee, Haifa, and Eilat have some beautiful places to stay near the wineries.  Turkish baths and some of the oldest historical spots in the world can also be added to your itinerary.

Hobart, Tasmania

Artisan foods complement the vintages in Tasmania. Hobart should be your home base so as to be able to get the most out of your romance in wine country. Filled with art and antiques, fulfill your love while at the feet of Mount Wellington at the Islington Hotel.  Places not to miss include Meadowbank Estate, Frogmore Creek, and Moorilla.

Colchagua Valley, Chile

The rolling hills of this country valley offer supreme growing conditions for vineyards – over 30 of them to be exact. Quiet and alluring, romance abounds in the Colchagua Valley.  Colonial towns and haciendas dot the landscape. Clos Apalta, Lapostolle Residence, and Emiliana Orgánico could be a perfect trifecta.

Waiheke Island, New Zealand

The local people refer to this island as wine island, although it was originally an artist colony.   Reachable by ferry from Auckland, you will surely fall in love all over again while wining and dining here.  This is the place to go when you wish to sample some of the world’s finest reds next to the Bordeaux.  You may want to think of luxury stays such as Matiatia, but on the mainland, don’t miss Mollies for art and opera.

Chianti, Italy

Perhaps one of the more well-known areas in all of Italy, Chianti is a lover’s dream.  The region is located in the heart of Old Tuscany with history running richly throughout.  Visit the hills layered with vineyards, gorgeous old forests, or perhaps the medieval village of Greve that comes with an old, grand piazza lined with porticoes and loggias.  Raddia, Castellina, and Gaiole are other lovely areas not to miss with their ancient traditions and historic castles.

Burgundy, France

Burgundy, France, is another name that is synonymous with wine and romance. While here, you can enjoy activities like golfing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, polo, or swimming when you aren’t cuddling, wining, or dining.  Steeped in history, you will find 16th Century wine presses still in use, as well as hotels that are as historic and aged as some of the area’s best vintages.  Some newer hotels include the La Côte Saint Jacques & Spa and the Georges Blanc Parc & Spa that offers an on-site beauty shop and a spa that comes complete with a mud bath.
